Field Day on Digitization and Remote Sensing in Crop Production

Field Day on Digitization and Remote Sensing in Crop Production

On November 6, 2024, a field day workshop on Digitization and Remote Sensing in Crop Production was held at the Teaching and Research Institute for Animal Breeding and Husbandry (LVAT) in Groß Kreutz, Havel, Germany.

Organized by AgriSens-DEMMIN 4.0, in collaboration with DigiMix-PA and Soil-X-Change, the event gathered experts, researchers, farmers and agriculture practitioners.

The workshop, hosted at the Leibniz Innovation Farm for Sustainable Bioeconomy, provided a platform for knowledge exchange and learning. Attendees had the chance to explore agriculture technology topics through insightful lectures, interactive panel discussions, and technology demonstrations.

Key Topics and Highlights

Throughout the day, participants had the opportunity to experience a variety of topics crucial to the future of digital agriculture, including:

  • Stone Detection with Drones and AI: Understanding how drones and artificial intelligence can assist in detecting field stones on arable land.
  • Yield Estimation and Management Zoning: Tools and methods to optimize crop management based on yield prediction.
  • High-Resolution Weather Radar and Site-Specific Precipitation Tools: Advanced weather monitoring and prediction systems tailored to specific agricultural zones.
  • FieldMApp – A Mobile Solution for Sustainable Field Management: Demonstration of a field management app designed for efficient and sustainable farm data recording.
  • Intelligent Soil Sensors and Weather Stations: The latest in field data collection tools for accurate environmental monitoring.

  • Site-Specific N-Fertilization Technology and Sensors: Precision technology for tailored nitrogen fertilization, enhancing crop yield and sustainability.
  • Virtual Reality for Precision Farming: An immersive virtual environment for precision agriculture trials and experimentation.
  • High-Resolution Sensor-Based Soil Mapping: Innovations in soil texture, pH, and humidity mapping for optimal crop production.
  • Automated Data Transmission from Agricultural Machinery: Automated solutions for data collection and transfer from machinery in the field.
  • Digital Communication and Data Platforms for Farms: Development of a unified digital platform for efficient communication and data management within agricultural businesses.

With a packed agenda that included various live demonstrations, participants had a hands-on experience with digital tools and solutions shaping modern crop production.

Throughout the day, farmers, agriculture practitioners and advisors had the opportunity to discuss about the barriers they face when it comes to adopting more sustainable practices and technology in agriculture. To record these insights, Soil-X-Change partners hand-over the Farmer Survey and collected answers from the attendees.

Overall, this event reflected the ongoing commitment of AgriSens-DEMMIN 4.0, DigiMix-PA, and Soil-X-Change to support digital transformation in agriculture, paving the way for more sustainable crop production practices.
